Each crane holds a fragment of the past: a face, a gesture, a shadow of a life that once was. Layer by layer—paper, texture, image—the birds gather meaning, forming an intimate archive transformed into new life.

Across the series, the birds appear in shifting roles.
In one work, they rise like a bouquet—ancestral memories entering the home, quietly insisting on their place within the present. In another they cluster into a head-like form caught on a fence, entangled with a woman’s shirt—a visual knot of past and future, belonging and escape.

The cranes act as messengers, crossing boundaries of time:
from history into daily life,
from loss into vitality,
from absence into the fragile insistence of being remembered.

Together, these staged photographs blend still life, portraiture, and fantasy, revealing how the inherited stories we carry—whether chosen or unavoidable—shape our identity.
They echo the unresolved paradox at the heart of generational memory:that life continues, even within the shadow of those who are gone. For “in their death, they commanded us joy.”
